HDPE Material Introduction

HDPE is a highly crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic.

The appearance of the original HDPE is milky white.

HDPE is a thermoplastic polyolefin produced by the copolymerization of ethylene. Although HDPE was introduced in 1956, the plastic has not yet reached maturity. This versatile material is constantly being developed for new uses and markets.

It is translucent to a certain extent in the thin section. PE has excellent resistance to most household and industrial chemicals. Certain types of chemicals are chemically aggressive, such as aggressive oxidants (concentrated nitric acid), aromatic hydrocarbons (xylene), and halogenated hydrocarbons (carbon tetrachloride). The polymer is non-hygroscopic and has good water vapour resistance for packaging applications. HDPE has good electrical properties, especially high insulation dielectric strength, making it very suitable for wires and cables. Medium to high molecular weight grades have excellent impact resistance at ambient temperatures and even as low as -40F. The unique properties of the various grades of HDPE are the appropriate combination of four basic variables: density, molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and additives. Different catalysts are used to produce tailor-made polymers with special properties. These variables combine to produce HDPE grades for different applications; achieving the best balance of properties.

PE can be manufactured with a wide variety of different processing methods. Using ethylene as the main raw material, propylene, 1-butene and hexene as the copolymer, under the action of the catalyst, the slurry polymerization or gas phase polymerization process is adopted, and the obtained polymer is flashed, separated, dried, granulated, etc. process to obtain a finished product with uniform particles. These include, for example, sheet extrusion, film extrusion, pipe or profile extrusion, blow molding, injection molding and rotational molding.
